Dow Jones also provides news content to television and radio stations.
 
The EMEA Tax team which is a part of the finance team, based in London, is responsible for the tax compliance and planning for the entities in the EMEA region.
 
Position Summary Statement

Reporting to the Tax Manager, your responsibilities will include, VAT compliance and planning, advising management and staff of VAT legislative changes, liaising with external VAT advisors, VAT planning for the EMEA region, minimising any VAT seepage/ cost to the business, making 8th and 13th EU VAT Directive claims and preparing and presenting VAT awareness training for staff.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
These include:

·         the preparation and electronic submission of proper VAT returns for all UK and EU entities, on a timely basis, to the various VAT authorities,
·         the preparation and submission of 8th and 13th EU VAT Directive claims for the EMEA region,
·         dealing with all enquiries from VAT authorities following the submission of returns/claims,
·         managing VAT audits in the UK and the EU region,
·         filing proper Intrastat and other VAT statistical returns on a timely basis for the UK and EU entities,
·         controlling the maintenance of VAT records,
·         liaising with external VAT advisors, outsourced service providers and the VAT Manager at News International Ltd (a News Corporation company) on VAT matters relating to the entities in the EMEA region,
·         advising the business of any VAT legislative/practice changes that may affect the group,
·         assisting management in implementing changes to IT systems where required,
·         validating customer VAT registration numbers,
·         dealing with day-to-day VAT queries from the business,
·         working closely with the Tax Manager and the VP Tax (Based in the US) on advising the business of VAT planning opportunities,
·         advising the legal department on VAT clauses in trading contracts,
·         carrying out in-house VAT audits to ensure proper VAT recording of transactions.

Qualifications and personal attributes required

·         Qualified and/or experienced VAT professional, ideally with at least 4 year’s experience gained in a multinational environment with hands-on UK and EU VAT compliance skills
·         A good communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to explain complex VAT rules in a concise, clear and precise manner, to both experts and non-experts at all levels
·         A self starter who needs very little supervision with a professional approach to work and attention to detail
·         Proactive and confident individual
·         Ability to work under pressure
·         A team player
·         A good working knowledge of excel spreadsheets
