Group Tax is a global function; the team is based in 4 locations – UK, US, Netherlands and Ireland. There are 57 members of the team. Group Tax has responsibility for consolidating and certifying the accuracy of the externally reported tax numbers. Group Tax also assesses and reports to the Audit Committee on the total Tax risk footprint of the Diageo group globally.
 
Purpose of Role

  • This is a broad tax role in the UK Team. The main purpose of this role is to:
    • Assist the team leader in managing UK compliance, year end reporting
    • Delivering tax value through planning
    • Advise on international aspects including CFC, dividend exemption, post transaction reporting
    • To proactively manage the Group’s UK corporate tax affairs (with the team leader) ensuring that we maintain a good relationship with HMRC, are compliant with UK tax legislation and our UK reporting is compliant with external reporting requirements
    • Coaching other members of the team as well as generating and sustaining great working relationships and networks across the organisation
 Qualifications and experience required

Degree Level, ACA/ CTA; at least 5 years p.q.e (or equivalent)
 
Functional Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong technical tax capability on tax legislation applicable to UK operations e.g. loan relationships, CFC, DTR, Treasury consent; strong tax accounting skills (UK GAAP and IFRS)
  • Application of tax knowledge to commercial agenda
  • Sound judgement regarding acceptable levels of tax risk
  • Effective project management and implementation skills
  • Awareness of external environment in relation to tax issues
  • Strong team working and communication skills
