The role supports various business units across the Global Markets, Global Banking, Global Wealth and Investment Management arms of the bank:
• Reviewing proposed structured transactions in order to determine tax issues and risks: o Engaging local advisors in European countries and liaising with them when needed; o Outlining tax risks and advising the business units of conditions which will minimize those risks. • Advising business units on various asset optimisation tax issues: o Yield transactions; o Rehypothecation of prime brokerage client securities; o Collateral management. • Advising the stock lending and repo business on various tax issues including the application of the UK MOD and SDRT rules. • Advising the equities trading and DMA desk on tax issues with various derivatives including swaps, CFDs and other hedging instruments. • Providing tax advice in respect of outbound investments into various European countries including: o The appropriate structure and financing of the investment; o The taxation of the investment in the local jurisdiction. • Providing advice in respect of withholding tax rules in various countries for different investments and forms of income. • Ensuring business units are informed of any relevant changes in UK/European tax law and the implications for their current and future activities. • Advising on the US tax implications of various activities.
