Job Details

This is an unusual opportunity for a tax professional to join an in-house finance team of a major UK retailer and be groomed to become Head of Tax within 2 years. The business seeks an experienced tax professional to manage all aspects of tax. You will help develop the Tax Policy/Tax Strategy and processes. This role would suit a qualified tax specialist (ICAS, ACA, CTA or equivalent) with proven experience of dealing with large UK corporate groups.  It is likely that you will have had some previous in-house experience. Day to day this role you will report to the current Head of Tax and your role will include:
•    Management of direct and indirect tax for the business.
•    Compliance and tax reporting for entities in the UK and Ireland.
•    Helping the finance team with forecasting for tax payments.
•    Liaison with HMRC over their queries.
•    Tax support and due diligence on transactions including timely integration of all tax matters arising from acquisitions.
•    Advice to the business on capital allowances and other property related tax issues.
•    Managing the Senior Accounting Officer documentation, including working with relevant teams in the business in the preparation and subsequent review of high- risk areas before presentation to the Group Finance Director.
•    Review of the UK transfer pricing position and related documentation.
•    Building relationships within the business and with external advisors.
•    Supporting the Payroll and HR Departments with tax technical advice they need on employment issues.
•    Support for the legal team on tax issues arising from contracts.

Based in the Head Office in Carlisle this role can be worked on a hybrid basis but several days a week in the office are needed. Its likely that you will be a Group Tax Manager or Senior Manager looking for a step up to Head of Tax. Would consider someone on a 4 day week with a plan of moving to 5 days in 2 years time
