AVP - Tax Accountant

Leading global bank looking to recruit a Tax Accountant for its small team based in the City.

Your new role

Position summary:
  • Supporting the Financial Management Department tax team with core tax compliance tasks
  • Data, process, control and governance improvement

Essential Responsibilities:

Supporting the Head of Tax and two Senior Tax Mangers to:

  • Manage the Bank's tax reporting and compliance, dealing with auditors and local tax authorities
  • Implement the Bank's tax policy, strategy and ensure compliance with the Banking Code of Practice
  • Develop the Financial Management Department tax team and share tax knowledge with stakeholders

Responsible for key tax compliance obligations involving the preparation of direct and indirect tax compliance calculations and work papers, with support of external advisors where applicable, covering:

  • Corporation Tax and Bank Surcharge (two banks and one non-bank entity)
  • Corporate Interest Restriction
  • UK Bank Levy
  • Quarterly Instalment Payments
  • VAT returns including partial exemption special method, capital goods scheme (supporting Senior Indirect Tax Manager)
  • Withholding Tax
  • Bank & Building Society Information
  • Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings
  • Stamp Duty Land Tax
  • Construction Industry Scheme
  • Tax accounting and financial statement disclosures
  • Head Office tax reporting

For all relevant taxes, responsible for :

  • Operating tax controls and reconciliations and with continual improvement of the tax control environment
  • Developing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Improving data collection and process efficiency
  • Improving and updating tax governance process documentation

What you'll need to succeed

None Person specification:

  • Qualified tax professional or accounting qualification, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the financial services sector (or in practice supporting the FS sector)
  • Experience of UK corporation tax compliance & VAT compliance and partial exemption special method
  • Experience of ancillary taxes not required but candidate should demonstrate willingness to learn and develop
  • Experience of tax accounting
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Attention to detail
  • Inbound bank experience (preferred)
  • Mandarin language (desired but not essential)
