Employment Tax Assistant - Top 15 accountancy practice London

My client's highly regarded and experienced tax team are now looking to recruit a Tax Assistant to join the team to train across all areas of employment tax. In this role, you can expect to work with the wider team, supporting senior colleagues with their client portfolios. You will be given support and guidance in all tasks that you are asked to undertake and gain exposure across the wider business and learning about the different ways in which they support and engage with their clients.
As you progress, you can expect to be given more responsibility and the opportunity to assist on complex tax matters. You will work alongside Managers and Partners gaining first-hand knowledge of what their roles entail as well as gaining full study support for your professional tax qualifications (ATT & CTA).
Day to day duties of this role requires you to deal with the processing of complex payrolls for overseas nationals working in the UK, the associated tax filings with HMRC for the employee and employees and assisting with advisory work and HMRC tax enquiries.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Processing monthly payrolls using a combination of IRIS Payroll and Excel
Dealing with queries from clients in relation to the payroll and the tax position of the employees
Preparing net-to-gross calculations
Assisting with the preparation of employee tax returns
Liaison with clients to collect data needed for the completion of forms P11D and preparation of forms P11D and P11D(b)
Correspondence with HMRC in relation to PAYE Settlement Agreements including preparing calculations of the tax and NI due on benefits included in PSAs
Reconciling PAYE payments by comparing client records to HMRC records and claiming any refunds due
Routine correspondence with HMRC covering matters such as penalty appeals, resolving problems with duplicate UTRs and setting up/closing down payrolls
Attending client meetings.
Data gathering and preparing internal management statistics
Assisting with proposals
Assisting with articles/blogs for website/magazines/Twitter etc
Undertaking research on behalf of Managers/Partners
Skills and Experience to be developed
- 1 year of experience in Employment Tax
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills with an ability to progress a number of tasks simultaneously, prioritise workload and maintain effective systems
- IT literate with excellent working knowledge of Excel.
- A confident communicator, able to deal comfortably and credibly with staff and clients.
- Professional and confident with a can do attitude with the ability to forge professional relationships
- Strong team orientated approach.
· Understands & applies basic tax practice, risk management and quality control protocols while seeking guidance where appropriate.
· Prepares basic tax computations/returns.
· Competent in the use of tax software applications.
· Prepares basic written work on tax topics relevant to client assignments.
