Government of Jersey

Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, with an area of 45 square miles. The island combines a lively and cosmopolitan main town, which is home to its global finance sector, with sweeping, unspoilt beaches, fishing ports and rolling countryside. It’s just 14 miles off the north-west coast of France and 85 miles south of the English coast and is very well served by air to a range of UK and international cities.

With a population of around 100,000, Jersey is a self-governing Crown Dependency with its own financial, legal and judicial systems. The Island's parliament is known as the States Assembly. Jersey has a ministerial system of government. Jersey is not part of the European Union, although it is in a customs union in order to allow the free flow of goods and people between the Island, the UK and Europe.

An exciting role has arisen at the Government of Jersey’s tax administration – Revenue Jersey. A Deputy Comptroller of Taxes Revenue is being recruited at an exciting time of transformation and modernisation. The role is a key, pivotal one in supporting Ministers and senior civil servants in making informed decisions about tax policy for the Government of Jersey.

As one of the statutory office holders, you will be collegiately responsible (with the Comptroller of Revenue and Assistant Comptrollers) for administering Jersey’s tax system and tax laws independently from Ministers, maintaining good levels of compliance with tax law. You will also help develop and maintain Jersey’s international tax treaties and operational activities arising from them - in particular the efficient exchange of tax information between tax administrations globally.

You will be a qualified tax specialist with a strong understanding of Corporate Tax. You will display strong leadership credentials and the required gravitas to interact with senior ministers and civil servants.

You will ideally have had some exposure to international taxes work (initiatives such as FATCA and the OECD Common Reporting Standard).  You will be credible, able to represent the Government of Jersey at international forums and be able to provide tax-policy advice to Ministers often at short notice. You will have a sound understanding of taxation and will be interested in pursuing a role where you can have a direct impact on devising tax policy.

This is an exciting opportunity and will suit an ambitious individual looking to take on a senior leadership role with a highly regarded authority.
