In-House Tax Manager

Tax Manager, Education Sector, Fife, £52,500 + excellent benefits (2 year FTC), full-time or part-time

Your new company
Hays is delighted to be partnered with a highly reputable and established organisation in the Education sector to recruit for a new addition to their large Finance Department and, within this, their Tax & Treasury Team. This vacancy has arisen due to the current Tax Manager becoming heavily involved in a major transformation project. As such, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with tax regulations and providing advice to a wide range of stakeholders, focusing primarily on indirect tax. This role may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis, and flexible working arrangements can be made. You will work remotely due to government guidance and potentially throughout the contract should the successful individual not be local to Fife.

Your new role
As the Tax Manager, you will provide support and guidance to the organisation, ensuring it complies with all aspects of indirect tax statute pertaining to its activities. You will proactively identify any risk areas and liaise with sector experts, external advisers and the tax authorities to address and resolve any issues. Queries may relate to topics such as Brexit, Reverse Charge Tax, Partial Exemptions, Permanent Establishment Reviews, Custom Duties, imports, investments, and acquisitions. You will detect and implement potential tax-saving opportunities as well as any improvements to processes pertaining to tax recovery and compliance. In doing so, you will manage a Tax Accountant, reviewing preparation and submission of quarterly returns and supporting VAT audits. Should you wish, you may also broaden your technical knowledge by being involved in corporate tax compliance and treasury management.

What you'll need to succeed
You will have a proven track record delivering tax compliance and advice in a practice or in-house capacity, ideally with particular knowledge in relation to indirect tax. Having a relevant professional qualification will enhance your application but is not essential. You should be able to work autonomously, demonstrating good organisation and communication skills. You will feel comfortable completing research, interpreting tax legislation and liaising with tax authorities and external advisers. Previous people supervision or management is advantageous.

What you'll get in return
In addition to joining an interesting sector, you will receive a competitive salary with generous benefits, including a strong pension and 39 days annual leave. You will work in a collaborative and supportive setting with the opportunity to broaden your technical remit, gaining invaluable knowledge which will facilitate career development and open future doors. Whilst this is a 2 year FTC, this organisation is large with opportunities arising regularly as a result of projects and growth. This role may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis, with flexible working arrangements available. You will join the organisation remotely and this set up may be available for the full contract for the right individual.
