The firm, as a whole, specalises in working with entrepreneurial clients covering all aspects of their needs across all areas of tax. This collective effort of the firm to focus on these clients has enabled it to punch well above its weight and regularly win clients from the Top 10.
You will be responsible your own portfolio of clients which will range from large entrepreneurial OMBs to international corporations. You will deal with the advisory and complex compliance work as well as reviewing the compliance work you delegate to the juniors in your team. One of your main challenges will be developing the technical and management skills of your corporate tax team. To do this you will strategically allocate work to maximize both the output of the team and its development. As you successfully progress your team you will be expected to manage each member’s career path, planning the recruitment accordingly.
As a senior manager you will be working very closely with the partners and supporting them in pitches for new business. You will be expected to contribute to the strategic decisions and leadership of the team. To put it bluntly, you will not be seen as a number, lost in a sea of numbers. You will be a key member of the team relied upon for your expertise.
The firm has a strong reputation for progressing staff when targets have been met instead of biasing promotion on time served. The partners have designed the structure of the teams in their departments to enable each person to have enough space to grow and progress without stepping on each other’s toes. The Head of Tax explained to me that this has enabled the departments to come together as a team because the bottleneck syndrome has been removed.
